Dear Emmanuel Family,

I hope you were inspired by our excellent preachers during our World Ministries Celebration emphasis the past three weeks. I know that I was personally blessed that each speaker emphasized the importance of discipleship because I have been preparing for my next sermon series on this very subject.

This Sunday I am excited to begin a new sermon series called Identity Recovery: Recapturing What it Means to Be Disciples of Jesus.

As you are aware, Emmanuel Church intentionally focuses on three things: Worship, Discipleship and Outreach. As we have just ended a series on Worship Recovery it is the right time to focus on discipleship. There is no doubt about the centrality of discipleship for every person who wants to be a life-long follower of Jesus. Unfortunately, the importance of intentional discipleship can get lost in the myriad of important topics to Christians. I hope that changes at Emmanuel Church!

This three part sermon series will address three basic but essential issues all connected to our central identity as followers of Jesus Christ:

  • Who we are as Jesus’ followers?
  • Who we are not?
  • What we are to primarily be about?

As we observe the season of Lent in preparation for Easter, it is appropriate that we focus back on the person and ministry of Jesus Christ and learn how to better be one of His disciples. I encourage you to make it a priority to attend our corporate worship and study with me about how to recover our identity as His disciples.

Grateful to serve you,

Rick Durrance, Senior Pastor
