S.E.C.U.R.E. Policy

Serving Emmanuel’s Children Under Responsible Entrustment

The S.E.C.U.R.E. policy, Serving Emmanuel’s Children Under Responsible Entrustment, provides safety guidelines that promote an atmosphere of security and low adult/child ratios. We have an open door policy in all our classes.

  • No department’s size is to exceed the professional standard for “adult to child ratios”. The ratios are:
    • Birth through 8 months – 1:2
    • 9 months through 18 months -1:3
    • 19 through 36 months – 1:4
    • 3 and 4 years – 1:6
    • 5 years – 1:7
    • Kindergarten – 1:7
    • 1st – 5th grade – 1:7
  • The “two worker rule” states that two workers must always be present. In the primary ages, there may be occasions when one teacher is in the classroom but there will always be a door open. (i.e. second adult may be taking children to the bathroom, teacher becomes sick last minute and is unable to replace themselves. Substitutes are usually found or classes are combined.)
  • All workers in our children’s programs (birth through 5th grade) must:
    • Attend the church on a regular basis for 6 months
    • Fill out a ministry application and have a background check done
    • Be interviewed and approved by the Children’s Director
    • Read the Teachers Handbook or Nursery Worker Handbook depending on the position they are ministering in.
    • Read the Emmanuel Church Child and Youth Protection Policy
    • Wear a picture ID
  • All children must wear a security label and be signed in and out by a parent/guardian.
  • A parent or authorized guardian must be on the church campus if their child is under 5 years of age.
