Ephesians 1:11-14: In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 5:15-20: Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflect

Let’s be honest: trying to live out your faith day after day can feel exhausting. When life

gets heavy, work gets stressful, or the world just seems completely chaotic, it is easy to

feel like running on empty. We try so hard to be “good Christians” on our own strength,

but we usually just end up burned out. The good news is that God never expected us to

survive this life by pushing our way through it. We persevere in faith not by trying harder,

but by being filled with the Holy Spirit.

In Ephesians 1:11–14, Paul gives us a huge reason to breathe a sigh of relief. He says

that the moment we believed in Jesus, God put a “seal” on us. Back in the day, a wax

seal on a letter meant, “This belongs to the King, don’t mess with it, and it’s guaranteed to

get where it’s going.” 

God did that to you. 

He gave you the Holy Spirit as a downpayment, proving that He is going to finish what He started in your life. Your future with Him is a done deal. You don’t have to worry about losing your grip, because He has a hold of you.

But knowing our future is safe doesn’t mean we just sit back and do nothing right now.

In Ephesians 5:15–20, Paul tells us to pay close attention to how we live. He says the

world can be a pretty dark place, so we need to be smart and make the most of our

time. But how do we actually do that when we’re tired? 

He gives a simple command: “Be filled with the Spirit.”

I love this analogy; a sailboat doesn’t move by the crew pushing it; it moves when the

sails open up and let the wind push it. Being filled just means waking up every day,

opening up our hearts, and letting God take control. It’s a daily choice to say, “God, I

I can't do this day on my own. You take control.”

When you let the Holy Spirit fill you, you no longer feel like you are struggling to survive but instead are thriving regardless of your circumstances. You don’t have to manufacture the strength to keep your faith alive today. God already guaranteed your finish line. Today, just stop trying to control everything. Let go of the stress, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you up, and let Him give you the energy to keep moving forward.

God, thank You that my future is safe with You and that You have already sealed me with Your Spirit. I confess that I get tired trying to do everything on my own strength. Please take control today. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit right now. Give me the wisdom to make good choices, a thankful heart even when things are tough, and the energy to keep going. In Jesus’ precious and holy name amen.
