If You Love Me…

As we pray this week, we are participating in the Story of God by demonstrating our love for God through obedience

Scriptures

John 14:15: If you love me, keep my commands.

1 John 5:1-5: Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

Adoration

Holy Father, you are the one who loves your creation that you are not willing to leave us to our own devices, but have made a way to rescue us and bring us back into your family.

Lord Jesus, you have loved us so much to become like us, show us who we are to be, and how we are to be, so that we can truly be a part of your family.

Holy Spirit, you love us and reveal to us the truth that we may know and love you in return.

Confession

Father, I confess that I do not always love you perfectly. 

Lord Jesus, I confess there are ways that I put my own desires over yours, and I do my own thing rather than follow your commands.

Holy Spirit, I confess there are times when I don’t want to do what I know I should. 

God, have mercy and forgive me.

Thanksgiving

Father, thank you so much for your love for us. Thank you that you love us enough to rescue us, to adopt us, and to welcome us into your eternal family.

Lord Jesus, thank you so much for your love for us. Thank you that you love us enough to die for us, to redeem us, and to call us your brothers and sisters.

Holy Spirit, thank you so much for your love for us. Thank you for dwelling in us, empowering us, and drawing us into communion with the whole Trinity.

Supplication

Triune God, help me to trust your goodness and love, more than my emotions and thoughts. Help me to trust that your commands are not burdensome, but truly life giving. Empower and equip me to love you, and out of that love obey you, and out of that obedience, represent you well.
