Looking For Opportunities

Reaching at Home

by Praying for Burbank

Theme

As we pray this week, we are preparing ourselves to be the people of God by praying for opportunities to witness to those we come across

Scriptures

Colossians 4:5-6: Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

1 Peter 3:15-17: But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.

Reflect

Opportunities are a daily occurrence. Are we prepared to seek out the right ones? Today, how should we, as followers of Christ, prepare ourselves to make the most of these opportunities. The Apostles Paul and Peter, guided by the Holy Spirit, reveal to us both the need, and how, to best prepare for our daily “walk and talk”. Please PRAY, READ, and MEDITATE on this week’s Scripture verses, and then ask yourself, am I truly prepared to meet the opportunities that God has for me today? As followers of the Lord and Savior, Jesus, we want our “walk and talk” to shine for Him with EVERYONE we come in contact with. Let’s pray for the Holy Spirit to prepare and provide opportunities for us to share our faith with boldness and grace to those who need to hear and see the gospel message actually lived out in us.

Pray that our God will use each of us at Emmanuel Church to be a beacon of hope to Burbank and to our surrounding communities, for this truly is the DAY OF SALVATION! Let’s faithfully pray together that the Holy Spirit will prepare the hearts of those in our community, of whom we come in contact with, to be open and receptive to the good news of the Gospel message when we have the opportunity to do so.

Pray

Heavenly Father, hallowed be thy name! Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Please forgive me when my “walk and talk” don’t match. Please forgive me when I don’t see and love others the way YOU see and love them, especially those who are so very different than I am. I know that you do love me and have redeemed me by grace. Holy Spirit, please prepare and use me to reach out to those who do not know you: my family members, my friends, my neighbors, my coworkers, my community, and yes, even strangers that you put in my path. Today, guide me to those opportunities where you want me to shine for YOU! I pray all this in the majestic name of my Lord and Savior, JESUS!
