Praying for the Leaders

As we pray this week, we are participating in the Story of God by praying for the leaders and authorities of our State

Scriptures

Colossians 1:15-17: The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Proverbs 21:1-13: In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him.

A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.

To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

Reflect

California is a big state! 

With 163.696 square feet of beautiful real estate including beaches, 

mountains, deserts, forests, and orchards and almost 40 million people, 

it takes a lot of people to watch over and govern. 

God's word instructs us to pray for all of those in authority over us but, for the month of June, we'll be focusing specifically on praying for the needs of our state. This week's scriptures remind us that God created all things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities. 

The passage in Proverbs tells us that, in the Lord's hands, the king's heart is like a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him. The things going on around us are not surprising to God. He sees, He knows, He responds to the prayers of His people. We should be praying consistently for our leaders for wisdom, unity, strength, discernment, and for God's plan to be accomplished.

Prayer shouldn't be our last resort. 

Don't underestimate the power of prayer. 

1 Timothy 2 reminds us that "petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people -

for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness."

Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for guiding the hearts of those in authority. 

Give us wisdom in how to pray for them 

that we may live peaceful lives and be pleasing to you.
