Theme
As we pray this week, we are persevering in praying for others by praying for all of our elected officials
Scriptures
Psalm 72:1-4: Endow the king with your justice,
O God, the royal son with your righteousness.
May he judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice.
May the mountains bring prosperity to the people, the hills the fruit of righteousness.
May he defend the afflicted among the people and save the children of the needy; may he crush the oppressor.
Proverbs 25:2-5: It is the glory of God to conceal a matter;
to search out a matter is the glory of kings.
As the heavens are high and the earth is deep,
so the hearts of kings are unsearchable.
Remove the dross from the silver,
and a silversmith can produce a vessel;
remove wicked officials from the king’s presence,
and his throne will be established through righteousness.
Notice
It is not a given that leaders will make good decisions. There are many things that can keep leaders from doing their God given job of promoting good and restraining evil. It is our duty to intercede on behalf of those who are in positions of leadership, for their good, and for the good of those they are leading.
Pray
Holy Father, guide the hearts, minds, and spirits of our elected officials. Lord Jesus, give them wisdom and humility, discernment and courage, character and conviction. Holy Spirit, convict and redeem them. Triune God, protect them from the influence of the Evil One, use them to do good in this world, and bring about repentance where it is needed.
Practice
This week, every time you think about the government, or about an elected official, spend time praying for them. Offer prayers and petitions rather than judgment or praise.
